Incantation and Dance

for some weird reason, i had the sudden urge to listen to this song. it’s been four years since i last played this song/touched my flute at all. this is still my favorite song that i’ve played throughout the 8 years that i’ve played the flute. i first heard this song during my freshman year of band while i was watching the symphonic band perform this song at anaheim. i have to say, this was love at first sound! i fell in love with the song the first time i heard it! i was so thrilled to find out that this was one of our competition pieces for anaheim and cmea for my senior year. however, when i first saw the music sheets for this piece i almost wanted to cry. the first few measures were one of the lowest notes i’ve ever played in my life, yet i was so ecstatic when i found out that i was one of the trios for the trio part in the beginning of the song for both anaheim and cmea! then comes the crazy insane runs in throughout the song; no one has any idea how many hours i’ve dedicated to those runs back in my senior year of high school. if only i had a recording of myself playing this song back then, i can rewatch my fingers move insanely fast to those runs and be amazed at myself that i could play that four years ago! i think this is one of the songs where i was quite jealous of the percussion section! especially in the beginning of the song with all the different parts coming in with the different rhythms each! i’m so glad i had the chance to play this song four years ago and just wish i can still blow through the flute for 5 seconds without getting lightheaded again :(
